Your birth details

Local time where you were born. Use your birth certificate if you can.

Type at least 3 letters, then choose your town from the list.

Why the exact time matters

In Vedic astrology the Lagna changes about every two hours, the Navamsa about every thirteen minutes, and the dates of your planetary periods come from the Moon’s exact position. A time that is off by even a few minutes can change parts of your chart, so please use the most precise time you have.

How it works · 01

It all begins at one point on Earth

Your date, your exact time and your birthplace fix one moment in one place. We find the time zone that was in force there on that day, so the sky is read from exactly where you arrived.

02 · The grahas

The nine grahas take their places

Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, with Rahu and Ketu, the Moon’s nodes, settle into the twelve rashis of the sidereal zodiac, measured from the fixed stars. The rashi rising at your birth becomes your first house.

03 · Your chart

A Vedic chart is formed

The same circle of twelve, folded into the square North Indian chart. Your Lagna is the first house at the top; the others follow counter-clockwise, one sign to a house, each graha in its place.

Why your Vedic sign may differ

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which begins each year at the spring equinox. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, measured from the fixed stars. Over the centuries the two have drifted about 24° apart.

That is why many planets, often the Sun as well, fall one sign earlier in a Vedic chart. Neither chart is wrong. They are two traditions with different starting points, and each is read in its own way.

This chart uses the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses, the mean lunar node for Rahu and Ketu, and the Vimshottari period system, the most widely used choices in Jyotish.

Method and trust

A reading you can check

Calculation and meaning are kept apart, and every choice behind your chart is named.

01

The exact time comes first

The Lagna changes about every two hours and the Navamsa about every thirteen minutes. We ask for your exact time before calculating, and we never invent a missing one.

02

Calculation and meaning stay apart

AstrologyAPI calculates the positions; we check every value against the planets’ longitudes and keep one chart that the free and complete readings share. Unlocking never calculates it again.

03

Named, traditional choices

The sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa, whole-sign houses, the mean node for Rahu and Ketu, and the Vimshottari periods: the most widely used choices in Jyotish.

04

Written by us, in a hopeful voice

Every passage of your reading comes from texts we wrote for this tradition, not from AI. It looks ahead with care and is offered for spiritual guidance, not professional advice.

Questions

What is a nakshatra?

The sky the Moon travels through is divided into 27 lunar mansions, the nakshatras, each with its own deity and symbol. The one the Moon occupied when you were born, your janma nakshatra, is one of the most personal parts of a Vedic reading.

What is a planetary period (dasha)?

The Vimshottari system divides life into periods ruled by the nine grahas, from 6 to 20 years long, each with shorter sub-periods inside it. Your chart shows which period you are living in now and when it changes.

Why is the chart a square?

This is the North Indian style. The twelve houses stay in fixed places, with the first house at the top centre, and the number in each house is its sign (1 is Aries, 12 is Pisces). The table under the chart lists the same placements in words.

Is this the same as my Western birth chart?

No. It is a separate reading in a different tradition. You can have both, and they are not meant to be blended into one.
